NPP RUPPUR

Ruppur NPP is a nuclear power plant under construction in the Republic of Bangladesh. The construction site of the proposed plant is on the east bank of the Ganges River, 160 km far from the capital of Bangladesh, the city of Dhaka. Ruppur NPP is being designed and built according to the Russian project, which includes the construction and commissioning of two power units with VVER-1200 reactors.

Ruppur NPP is to be constructed as part of an Intergovernmental Agreement between Russia and Bangladesh concluded in November 2011. In autumn 2013, the foundation stone of the future power plant was laid. At the first stage of construction, the nuclear power plant will be equipped with two power units with Russian reactors with an electric capacity of 1200 MW each. Russia allowed Bangladesh a loan of $ 500 million for the construction of the plant. In the future, Bangladesh is supposed to be provided with the second loan to continue the construction. The cost of the project, according to Bangladeshi media reports, is up to $ 13 billion. Russia is providing a state export loan of up to $ 11.38 billion, for the Bangladeshi side to use it within the period of 2017–2024.

The General Contract for the construction of the first Bangladeshi nuclear power plant was signed on December 23, 2015, during the visit of the General Director of Rosatom Sergey Kiriyenko to Bangladesh.
